    The position focuses on compliance and operations, rather than contracting activities (“Contracting Services”) between company and its clients in Korea; however, the positon is available to help with local issues and to collaborate as necessary with other Compliance, Operations, Regulatory and Ethics (“CORE”) Legal Services teams and those supporting Contracting services. The ambit of the Legal Counsel mainly includes compliance, regulatory and operations matters.

    Overall Support
    i) Organize and maintain local legal compliance in Korea through adequate, relevant and proportionate action plans.
    ii) Anticipate and support the local needs of the corporate functions, in particular, Procurement, Finance, Marketing and Tax.
    iii) Help ensure close collaboration with the corporate functions in support of Korea.

    Support to other Legal Functions
    i) Foster seamless integration and teaming relationships with the other CORE Legal Services teams as well as with all teams in Legal Contracting Services in Korea.
    ii) Provide coordinated legal education to the practice, to the other CORE Services teams, and to the Contracting Services legal professionals in Korea to enable the building of actionable solutions.

    Compliance
    i) Implement the Global Anti-Corruption Compliance Program in Korea.
    ii) Develop, initiate, maintain, and revise policies and procedures for the general operation of the compliance program in Korea and its related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct. Manage day-to-day operation of the program.
    iii) Collaborate with other departments (e.g., Litigation, Corporate Investigations and Labor & Employment, etc.) to direct compliance issues to appropriate existing channels for investigation and resolution. Consult with such other departments as needed to resolve difficult legal compliance issues.
    iv) Respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Code of Business Ethics by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures. Develop and oversee a system for uniform handling of such violations.
    v) Ensure that compliance issues/concerns within the organization are being appropriately evaluated, investigated and resolved.
    vi) Monitor, and as necessary, coordinate compliance activities of other departments to remain abreast of the status of all compliance activities and to identify trends.
    vii) Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develop/implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues, and provide general guidance on how to avoid or deal with similar situations in the future.
    viii) Provide reports on a regular basis, and as directed or requested, to keep the senior management informed of the operation and progress of compliance efforts.
    ix) Ensure proper reporting of violations or potential violations to appropriate internal stakeholders as appropriate and/or required.
    x) Institute and maintain an effective compliance communication program for Korea, including promoting (a) use of the Anti-Corruption Hotline; (b) heightened awareness of the Code of Business Ethics, and (c) understanding of new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures.
    xi) Develop an effective compliance training program, including appropriate introductory training for new employees as well as ongoing training for all employees and Managing Directors.
    xii) Monitor the performance of the compliance program and related activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness.
    DELIVERY MODEL

    i) Serve as trusted business partner to the business leaders and the corporate function leads on important CORE issues affecting Korea, with a focus on early intervention and proactive shaping of solutions.
    ii) Meet business needs by leveraging internal and external resources with reusable and industrialized knowledge.
    iii) Interact with internal experts, other CORE Legal Services teams as well as with all teams in Legal Contracting Services in Korea and peers at other companies.
    iv) Operate cost effectively and consistent with relevant Accenture policies and the Korea geographic legal budget by:
    a) optimizing the development and use of standardized tools and processes;
    b) developing alternative sourcing for both generalist and specialist country support requirements using the Legal Global Service Center, off-shore resources and outside counsel, after training them as a part of our geographic legal community.
    c) selecting law firms, making them part of the delivery workforces and regulatory structures.
    v) Develop and monitor performance metrics for Geographic legal support in Korea and improve performance against those metrics where necessary.

    RESOURCES

    i) Might serve as mentor for Legal Global Service Center (LGSC) support team members in APAC.
    ii) Help develop and maintain a career path for mentees (if any) by encouraging skill development and optimization to allow for broader scope and international work (where applicable).
    Education: Law degree or JD from a reputable law school required.

    Work Experience: 8+ years of experience as an attorney in a good corporate law department or law firm including at least 3 years in a compliance or compliance related function.

    Knowledge and Skills:
    i) Good knowledge of, or ability to understand, the relevant laws in Korea (including those pertaining to compliance). Demonstrates sound judgment, ability to prioritize and make decisions, and a high level of common sense, including the ability to “see around corners” and identify risks before they materialize.
    ii) Able to present innovative, original solutions and to act as a strategic thinker. Ability to influence, strong executive presence. Responsive and follows through on commitments. Strong time management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
    iii) Ability to work effectively with the business leaders in Korea, partners from law firms, and senior lawyers of clients of the company in Korea.
    iv) Native or near native speaker of Korean with excellent business English skills.

    Internal relationships:
    This role reports to the Geographic Legal Lead for Japan and Korea. The successful candidate will be expected to work seamlessly with other CORE Legal Services teams as well as with all teams in Legal Contracting Services in Korea.

    External relationships: Supervise and manage local law firms for Geographic legal services in Korea.

    Work Requirements: some travel may be required at times, but with the ability to work remotely.
